Martin Mailman Excellence in Performance Endowed Scholarship

In 2001, the Oklahoma City University School of Music received a very generous donation from Mary Nan Mailman.  The money was intended for the establishment of an endowed scholarship for a deserving music major band student in the name of Dr. Martin Mailman (1932-2000) at Oklahoma City University.  Martin and Mary Nan’s son, Matthew, has been a Professor of Conducting at OCU since 1995.  For several years, Martin and Matthew worked closely together on many inspiring and unique music projects and performances at OCU: Martin the composer, and Matthew the conductor.  Martin Mailman had great faith in the programs at OCU, particularly the band department, and dedicated his last ensemble work (Pledges, Op. 98) to the OCU Symphonic Band.  For these reasons, Mary Nan felt it most appropriate to establish this musical legacy in Martin’s name at OCU.

With the kind generosity of several donors, the target corpus was reached in 2006, and the award has been presented each year since. As always, we are seeking to build upon Mary Nan’s initial contribution which will benefit more students in years to come.  Your donation will immediately be applied to this endowed fund and the earnings will be used to assist talented band students who may not otherwise be able to attend Oklahoma City University.  Your gift will be tax deductible.  All checks should be made out to “OCU School of Music”.  Indicate “Martin Mailman Endowed Scholarship” on the memo line.
